I would like to take this moment to officially welcome you to the Big Fat Film Festival Blog homepage. My name is Greg Bowden, but I am otherwise known as "Colin" to many out there, and I am the President and Co-Founder of the Big Fat Film Festival Committee, which bears my nickname at the start.
I must confess that I am a great lover of movies. I find watching a film to be one of the most enjoyable experiences in life, as it takes you away from the outside world for around 2 hours or so of your everyday routine. It's an ultimate form of escapism, I feel. And by creating the Committee and the Film Festival, I wanted to share those same experiences with many of you out there.
The Committee was co-founded by myself and Michael Brooks, a very close friend of mine, who also received a Platinum Membership for his services during the 2008 Film Festival, in which he attended ALL of the films screened throughout the duration of the Festival.
The first Big Fat Film Festival took place in 2007, between June and September. The original Festival was comprised of 5 films:
- Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer
- Transformers
- The Simpsons Movie
- Die Hard 4.0
- The Bourne Ultimatum
The Festival was a minor success, with small attendances for the first 2 films, but The Simpsons Movie was a major hit with a strong turnout, which resulted in a strong turnaround in attendance figures over the remainder of the Festival.
This year, we decided to go bigger and better. And it certainly lived up to expectations. We will list the full schedule from this year's Festival in the next entry, along with other news from the Festival and some details about next year's Festival, which will start on Boxing Day THIS YEAR.
So, thank you again for joining us here and look forward to returning again for future installments.
See you at the movies!
Greg "Colin" Bowden,
President/Co-Founder, Colin's Big Fat Film Festival.
